We are very aware of the downsides of the fashion industry and we want to carry our responsibility. Working towards sustainability is an integral part of Tekelepekele. Here are the main ways we commit to a sustainable future.

Our 5 commitments

1. We think global and act local

All Tekelepekele items are hand crafted in Helsinki. We build our community around the people we have close and make a point of supporting other local businesses. In all our decisions, we consider the bigger chains and impacts our industry has on the world. We make an effort to sustain our environment and to help people affected by its change.

 

2. We make lasting items with purpose

All of our items are designed to be meaningful, like pieces of art. We offer timeless beauty, solve common fit issues and listen to our customers' needs. All items are made in small batches or as bespoke items, so we don't over produce or create excess waste.

 

3. We choose sustainable materials and care about environmental health

We put thought into our materials and source as sustainably as we can. Due to our small and custom based ranges, we are able to effectively utilize different strategies for sourcing, recycling and reuse. We produce minimal amounts of waste and use recycled packaging. We also avoid virgin produced cotton in our products, since cotton is one of the most polluting fibers in the industry.

 

4. We provide representation and good working conditions

We aim for wide representation of marginalised bodies/minds in our marketing and in our team. We work within an intersectional community and invest in the welfare of workers around the Globe. We support BIPOC and LGBTQAI+ rights, lives and cultures.

 

5. We are constantly evolving

We are constantly learning and improving in terms of sustainable practices. We are open for change and we work hard to make better decisions every day.
